In recent years, many industrial companies have increasingly planned MES projects in the course of digitalization. However, despite high investments, many MES projects fail because their complexity is underestimated. The use of experts who actively involve relevant departments in the customer companies in the planning and set up adequate project management is promising. The existing IT landscape is taken into account in the selection of the best individual MES system and active support is provided during the MES system introduction - thus noticeably saving the companies' budgets.
agiplan's consulting services focus on a stringent methodical approach in addition to the analysis of the company's processes and the creation of fully comprehensive specifications based on target processes. In this way, the investment in a new MES system pays off in full. With an in-house developed system consisting of two phases and ten modules, agiplan supports companies in selecting the right MES system and successfully putting it into operation. Our customers rely on the extensive expertise of our consultants and project managers as well as their many years of experience from a large number of implemented IT projects.
As "translators" at the interface between the process and IT worlds, we provide intensive advice on the optimal degree of customization for ERP and MES solutions. The prerequisite for this is not least our expertise in factory planning and production optimization.
At the beginning of the MES selection process, we work with the customer to identify relevant core processes that are to be optimized with the help of the new MES system. Even if the MES software is to map processes in operation, the focus is first on mission-critical requirements that are relevant for the company's success. The target processes and additional requirements for the system as well as for the system partner form the basis for the specifications created by agiplan, which are used as the selection basis for the future system. Depending on the process landscape, we recommend an adequate standard system or, in the case of greater customization, software adaptation via individual programming.
The vendor selection process takes place in three stages: First, agiplan compiles a pre-selection from which the customer identifies three possible system houses for the tender process in close consultation. During the tendering process, agiplan provides support during the vendor presentations, evaluates the offers and finally recommends a suitable system house or software after carefully preparing the final documentation. The result after the first phase is an agreed contract with the appropriate system house and a realistic project plan up to Go-Live.
A typical MES IT architecture. Before making a selection, it is important to check whether the MES system meets the diverse requirements of the individual IT infrastructure.
agiplan supports customers in the MES implementation both organizationally and technologically. In the second phase, we believe it is important to work closely and coordinate with all key users. We aim to agree on a binding project goal and to record deadlines and costs in a project plan. During the implementation by the system provider, we check whether the predefined specification requirements are implemented completely and adequately. At the same time, we work at the interface between process and IT by mapping the process landscape virtually and congruently in operational reality. Whereby the general rule is: Too much testing is only just enough. With extensive testing, we ensure that relevant checks are carried out carefully and errors are corrected.
When the MES system is launched in the customer's company, the systems usually do not yet provide complete performance and functions. agiplan also supports its client companies in the post-go-live phase: We define metrics for determining maturity and system usage and, if necessary, enforce warranty claims against the system provider.
